Policy Brief: Fact Checking the Opponents of the Constitutional Amendment

With opponents spending over $1 million to mislead the public, IRG Action and WILL bust the myths and correct the record

The News: Misinformation is everywhere regarding the upcoming August 13th constitutional amendments that would require the governor to involve the legislature in decisions over spending federal taxpayer money.  The good government amendment to the Wisconsin Constitution would align Wisconsin spending with the vast majority of states.

But special interest groups are spending big to mislead the public.

To correct the record and keep opponents honest, IRG Action Fund and the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty have released a “mythbusting” report.  Our teams fact-check the 8 biggest attacks on the Constitutional Amendment.

The Quote: “The amendments are aimed at making state lawmakers function properly and work together,” said CJ Szafir, CEO of IRG Action Fund. “Special interests are working overtime to confuse voters. No one person should have the power to spend tax dollars. These amendments fix that by requiring everyone to work together – like in most states.”

Linked here is the mythbusting handout focused on some of the most egregious items being told by opponents regarding the amendments.

This document is the latest effort in a six-figure, public awareness campaign that IRG Action Fund and the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) announced last week.
