IRG Action Responds to Growing Budget Surplus

MADISON – With news today that the state surplus is estimated to grow to an unprecedented $7.1 billion in the next biennium, CJ Szafir, CEO of IRG Action, issued the following statement:

“The state continues taking in way more than it needs from taxpayers. It’s time to reset how the state taxes and spends, and that starts with transformational income tax reform such as a flat tax or income tax elimination to make sure taxpayers aren’t overtaxed going forward. Families and small businesses would love to have that $7.1 billion back in their pockets.

“It’s also time, with such a surplus, to ensure we have equality in the state between district and charter and private schools. All kids, regardless of where they go to school, should receive equal funding treatment from the state.”
