IRG Action Urges Senate to Take Up Unemployment Insurance and Welfare Reform Legislation

Madison, Wis. — This morning, the Senate Committee on Economic and Workforce Development voted to move important unemployment insurance and welfare bills forward to the full Senate. The votes were party-line, 3-2, with Republicans voting in favor of the bills and Democrats against.

“These bills are common sense measures to reduce fraud, fix the broken UI system, and help people get back to work,” said Chris Reader, executive vice president of IRG Action Fund. “By cracking down on ghosting and connecting unemployment benefits to real world conditions, these bills are aimed at improving our workforce participation. We encourage the full senate to take these up soon.”
